This is a beautiful dark brown velvet that has a bit of a rose undercast to it. It is medium weight with a bit of structure, but is not stiff. And of course, the short napped surface is wonderful to the touch. It would make a fantastic jacket or dress — I would make the facings out of a non-napped fabric to reduce bulk and to prevent the facings from “crawling” on the skin or what’s worn underneath the garment. I hand washed a small swatch, and it certainly could be carefully laundered, although the surface will have a slightly crushed look (which to my eye makes the velvet less formal looking).
