The warp of this iridescent doupioni is hot pink, and the weft is orange - and the effect is a vibrant color that I can’t get enough of. There’s not a lot of fabric, but this would make a fantastic shell blouse, or vest, or shorts, or use it as garment elements such as a collar and cuffs.
Please read the following note if you’re not familiar with silk doupioni.
Silk doupioni is one of my favorite fabrics — it’s crisp without being stiff; it’s very lightweight; it’s completely stable in the cross grain as well as the length of grain, so pattern pieces can be laid out in either direction; it’s easy to sew since it’s not slippery and drapey as many other silks are. It can be washed, although it will soften a good deal, and it might lose some of it’s color. I love using it for facings because of its crispness and how lightweight it is, and I often use Bi-Stretch Lite or Envy Silk as interfacing with it.
