Tan and black are the colors in this cross-woven /iridescent doupioni, which produce an alluring almost gold tone. There are two piece of the same fabric, so if you want more yardage, buy both!
This fabric pairs beautifully with the jacquard / tussah that is currently being offered. Because of this, I immediately start thinking about how to combine the fabrics in one garment or in an ensemble.
Please read the following note if you’re not familiar with silk doupioni.
Silk doupioni is one of my favorite fabrics — it’s crisp without being stiff; it’s very lightweight; it’s completely stable in the cross grain as well as the length of grain, so pattern pieces can be laid out in either direction; it’s easy to sew since it’s not slippery and drapey as many other silks are. It can be washed, although it will soften a good deal, and it might lose some of it’s color. I love using it for facings because of its crispness and how lightweight it is, and I often use Bi-Stretch Lite or Envy Silk as interfacing with it.
