Sarah’s Studio and Travel Information

Studio Information: I provide each student with a table and a chair for their work station. My home/studio is open to participating students usually from 8:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. I will clarify the start time when I send pre-class information and a suggested supply list, about four to six weeks before the class begins. I provide a continental breakfast each morning, so if you have concerns regarding food allergies, please contact me by email at or by phone at 443-622-8859. Animals are never allowed into my studio space, however, those with severe animal allergies should be aware that two large dogs do live in the house upstairs from the studio.

Student Sewing Machines: If you are coming to a class at my studio from a long distance, I have sewing machines available for several students. The machine will be yours to use for the duration of the class for a rental fee of $40. To reserve a machine, please contact me by email at or by phone at 443-622-8859.

Location/Amenities: My studio in Phoenix, MD is located 10 minutes from Hunt Valley, which is a thriving business and shopping area. It is a 30- to 40-minute drive from downtown Baltimore, depending on traffic.

14740 Old York Road
Phoenix, MD 21131

Recommended Airport: Baltimore-Washington International is the closest airport, 33 miles away and about a 45-minute drive. There is a MTA Light Rail train that runs between BWI and Hunt Valley, which takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, and is very inexpensive. There are several stops in the Hunt Valley area. Some hotels are within walking distance of the stops; a few hotels have courtesy van service for the immediate area. The end of the line is at the busy and popular Hunt Valley Towne Center shopping area.

Other Airports:

  • Harrisburg International Airport (70 miles, about 1 hour and 15 minutes)

  • Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. (60 miles, with D.C. traffic the drive takes at least 1 hour and 30 minutes)

  • Philadelphia International Airport (100 miles, about 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours)

  • Dulles International Airport, outside of Washington, D.C. (80 miles, with D.C. traffic the drive takes at least 2 hours)

Dining: Hunt Valley and the surrounding areas have a variety of dining options. There are a handful of local restaurants, and a large assortment of delis, restaurant chains, fast food chains, and two grocery stores with prepared take out (including a Wegman's with an extensive selection of prepared food). Baltimore offers an even greater selection of restaurants in an array of cuisines. Jacksonville is a small community 5 minutes from my studio, with two grocery stores and a number of restaurants and other shops.

Hotels: The following hotels and accommodations are approximately a 10- to 15-minute drive of my home/studio. There are several more hotels in the nearby communities. Since I have never stayed in any of these hotels, I can't give any personal recommendations. But students in the past have been satisfied and comfortable in all that I have listed here. Participants who have cars are often willing to help those who do not get to and from their hotel and my studio.
