Ensembles are groupings of garments that are designed to be worn together. They are made out of the same fabric, or fabrics that carry out a theme when grouped together. They also might have an embellishment that thematically connects them. In contrast, separates are garments that were not intentionally designed and made to be worn together. Sometimes ensembles are composed of several “mix-and-match” garments; the key then is that each grouping looks as though the garments were designed to be worn together.
