Understanding Knit Fabrics • Online Class Feb. 1-15, 2006

If time constraints and travel make it difficult for you to attend my classes, maybe on-line classes will fit into your schedule. This 15-lesson class will introduce you to a wide variety of knit fabrics, give you an understanding of the relationship between knit type and sizing of garments, and provide all kinds of tips on what needles and sewing machine stitches to use. The fee for the course is $98, including the supply kit. For more information, visit the class schedule on my website or go directly to http://www.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/classgeneric.pl?affid=37 where you can also register online (major credit cards accepted). Spots for the class are filling up quickly, so register ASAP. But it's likely that I will be holding this and another online class later this year, so I'll let you know when those dates are set.

Design Level II: Exploring Design • March 3-7, 2006

If you've taken my Design I class (also called "Soft Tailoring" and "Define Your Style"), now's your chance to take Design II. There are two changes from the way I usually teach this class. (1) To allow for more efficient travel, the first and last day of class will begin and end at noon. (2) This is a condensed class. I taught Design I in a shortened format in October 2005, and found that the shortened format works pretty well. What you sacrifice is the opportunity to work on lots of mock-ups, although you will have some free "creative" time to spend as you desire. If you would like extra fitting time the afternoon the class ends or on the following day, let me know and I'll make arrangements with you individually. Class fee is $495.00.

I was lucky enough to have a short trip in December with my daughter Annie to London and Prague, where we met three friends. I made this coat specifically for the trip to ward off the cold. More photos, including some of the inside quilting and pockets (so I didn't have to carry a purse) are on my website in the photo gallery.

If you enjoy looking at these featured garments, please submit one of your own! We all learn from – and are inspired by – what others create. Daywear, evening wear, a cool detail, a great color combination . . . we're interested in seeing your creativity. To submit your garment, just send Annie (webmaster@sarahveblen.com) two or three digital photos with a short paragraph describing the project.
