Back by popular demand! Pattern Review had so many requests for this class when the first session filled that they asked for it to be run again immediately. There are still plenty of openings. If time constraints and travel make it difficult for you to attend my classes, maybe on-line classes will fit into your schedule. This 15-lesson class will introduce you to a wide variety of knit fabrics, give you an understanding of the relationship between knit type and sizing of garments, and provide all kinds of tips on what needles and sewing machine stitches to use. The fee for the course is $98, including the supply kit. For more information, visit the class schedule on my website or go directly to http://www.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/classgeneric.pl?affid=37 where you can also register online (major credit cards accepted).
Quite a few of you have asked when the next NYC trip will be -- and I now have some possible dates:- Monday, March 27
- Tuesday, March 28
- Thursday, March 30
- Tuesday, April 4
If you're interested in going and one of these dates is good for you, please let me know asap. Once I've heard from a couple of you, I'll set
the date and post it on my website and send out another newsletter. The cost of the trip is $120.00, which includes your bus fare (with Superior Tours Bus Company) and a boxed breakfast, my up-to-date resource list, and as much of my help and advice as you want. This trip is always fun! For more information, please contact me or go to the classes page on my website.
After my two articles in Threads Magazine "To Get the Armhole Right, Fit the Bodice" (March 2005, Number 117) and "How to Fit a Perfect Sleeve" (May 2005, Number 118), I've had a number of people ask if I would teach a class on this. I'm putting together a 3-day class that would provide plenty of time for each participant to develop and fine-tune to perfection a bodice pattern and sleeve pattern. Once the pattern development has been completed, I'll explain how to make changes to these basic patterns to create different looks, and I'll work with you individually so that your garment has a flattering silhouette for your figure type. I do not intend for this to be a "sloper" class where you develop a pattern that you aren't quite sure what to do with next. Rather, you'll work on a pattern for either a jacket or a blouse. Plus, I'll teach you how to change a jacket pattern to fit like a blouse, and a blouse pattern to fit like a jacket. The cost of the 3-day class will be $395.00.
If you're interested in this class, please let me know which of the dates below is best for you. Once I've set the class dates, I'll be in touch with all who have expressed interest.- Friday, March 31 - Sunday, April 2
- Wednesday, April 5 - Friday, April 7
- Friday, April 21 - Sunday, April 23
My thanks to several of you who let me know that I
was included in Marcy Tilton's "Guide to Great Sewing Classes, Workshops & Vacations" in the February/March 2006 issue of Vogue Patterns.
As you can see, there's no featured garment in
this issue. If you like seeing interesting garments and details, please submit something you've created. If you don't have a digital camera, you can send me the garment and I'll even take the pictures.
We all learn from – and are inspired by – what others create. Daywear, evening wear, a cool detail, a great color combination . . . we're interested in seeing your creativity. To submit your garment, just send Annie (webmaster@sarahveblen.com) two or three digital photos with a short paragraph describing the project.
