Patternmaking Class Date Change • November 19-21, 2005

To accommodate people's schedules, the up-coming Practical Patternmaking class will be held Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, November 19-21, with a special class fee of $370. This class will be held in my home/studio, so class size is kept very small – which means that you get more time to work with me individually. There are still 2 openings for this class, so think about giving yourself a "pre-holiday" sewing treat and sign up! I have one student who has taken Practical Patternmaking three times – she says that the technical information gets reinforced while it gives her the opportunity to tackle much more difficult patternmaking projects.

The registration form can be found on my website or contact me directly and I'll mail you one.

Purveyor in the News

Washington D.C. is now among the elite cities that Modern Luxury has focused on. And in the September/October Premiere Issue of DC Modern Luxury, Purveyor was featured with an interview of owner Mark Dillingham. With an accompanying photograph of a champagne and black silk jersey evening gown by Purveyor, the tag line for the article read: THE GLAM MAN Mark Dillingham's Purveyor is sexing up the city.

And a model sporting a lovely red silk taffeta blouse by Purveyor was featured in the Fall 2005 Loudoun Magazine, both in the Fall Fashion article, Colors of the Season, and on the cover.

Featured Garment

I know those of you who study with me either privately or in classes sew wonderful clothing, ranging from comfortable day wear to spectacular evening wear. I'd like to start featuring a garment in each newsletter issue and in the photo gallery of my website so you can see some of each other's creations.

Check out what Margie Troy designed and made knowing that she was to receive a special award at her company's gala event! This gown was a much more complex project than anything she'd sewn before. The key was breaking down a complicated project into smaller increments. She learned a number of couture techniques along the way, but she says the experience of making this gown took her sewing in general to a much higher level. To see more photos and a movie of Margie in her gown, visit the photo gallery on my website.

If you liked looking at Margie's gown, please submit one of your own garments. We all learn from – and are inspired by – what others create. Daywear, evening wear, a cool detail, a great color combination . . . we're interested in seeing your creativity. To submit your garment, just send Annie (webmaster@sarahveblen.com) two or three digital photos with a short paragraph describing the project.
