Thanks to everyone who has recently expressed interest in my classes. The snag I continue to encounter is finding a time that's convenient for enough of you that I reach the minimum (5 people) I need to run a class.
Practical Patternmaking – Several people have inquired about my running this class again. Also, a few people who expressed interest in the Fitting: Learning the Basics said they wanted to develop slopers or patterns that fit themselves – Practical Patternmaking is actually a better class for that, since the Fitting class concentrates on learning to fit other people.
I would be happy to offer Practical Patternmaking this fall. I could run the class November 18-20, or possibly September 9-11. I will individually contact everyone who has expressed interest in Practical Patternmaking to see if either of these dates is a possibility. And please contact me if either of these dates work for you – or suggest dates that you would prefer.
Fitting: Learning the Basics - I have 3 people interested in this class, so I only need a few more. Learning to fit is mostly a matter of training your eye and to some extent your fingers. I've always wanted to teach this as a class rather than working with students individually because watching someone else conduct a fitting (and make mistakes and false starts) is a wonderful way to "get it." While watching, you'll find your own fingers getting restless because they know the solution! All I need is a date that would work for all of you who are interested.
Knits II – I was just contacted by someone interested in this more advanced class in working with knits. Many of you have taken my introductory Getting Comfortable with Knits class, and I can assure you that you’d have fun further exploring knits. Again, all I need is some possible dates from you. Don’t be shy!
Design Level I – A PACC member has asked if there’s a possibility of running Design Level I, Define Your Style, immediately following the PACC Conference, which will be held here in Baltimore in October. I would offer it as a slightly condensed and very intensive class running Monday, October 24 through Friday, October 28. Please contact me if you are interested in taking this exciting in-depth class.
Design Level II – I've also been asked by two people who have taken several classes to offer Design Level II in the late winter or early spring of 2006, possibly as a 4-day class. If you've taken Design Level I, this advanced design class will hone your design skills on multiple levels. You could even immerse yourself in the design process and take Level I in October and Level II in early 2006!
This yearly educational conference is being held in downtown Baltimore, October 19-24. There will be a variety of classes, a vendor market place, a fashion show, master classes, and bus tours. Non-PACC members are cordially invited. You can get more information about the conference at the PACC website: www.paccprofessionals.org.
In conjunction with the conference, I’m running a bus trip to New York. You can stay in the garment district and shop for fabric or go off on your own. You will receive all kinds of information, plus a coupon valid that day for 20% off your entire purchase at Exclusive Lace Star! For anyone interested, we’ll also make a side trip to the museum at FIT to see the exhibit "Dutch at the Edge of Design: Fashion and Textiles from the Netherlands" (admission is free).
For those in the Baltimore area, don’t miss the exhibit of laces from the Cone sisters' private collection. It’s a beautifully arranged exhibit with lots of information about lace making and historical information about this romantic fabrication. For instance, did you know that dogs were used to smuggle lace? The exhibit is at the BMA through September 18th. I promise you’ll have your socks knocked off!
