Sarah picks featured garments that display innovative design, show creative fabric combinations, and are an inspiration for other sewers and designers. The selected garments are featured here on the website and in Sarah's newsletter. If you enjoy seeing interesting garments, please consider submitting one of your own. We all learn from and are inspired by other people's creativity. To submit your garment, please email Annie (webmaster@sarahveblen.com) two or three digital photos with a short paragraph describing the project.

Wendy's Cozy & Tunic Tops
June 2007
Wendy has taken several of Sarah's classes, including Design I and II. With both garments, you can see how Wendy's idea went from a sketch to a beautiful top. The first garment is one that she called her "Cozy Top," and she found fabric for it on a class field trip to A Fabric Place. The details she incorporated are quite lovely, and make the top coordinate with other garments in her wardrobe. She called the second her "Tunic Top." Although these two garments have a similar feel, they are well thought out in order for the incorporated details to work perfectly. The soft, small cowl neck of this Tunic Top calls for set-in sleeves. And the fabric of the belt is a perfect textural and visual complement to the fabric of the top.

Sarah's Cold Weather Coat
January 2006
Sarah was lucky enough to have a short trip in December with her daughter Annie to London and Prague, where they met three friends. She made this coat specifically for the trip to ward off the cold. Below are photos of the inside quilting, pockets so she didn’t have to carry a purse, and the binding Sarah used to finish the edge of the lining.

Margie's Gala Gown
November 2005
Margie designed and made this gown knowing that she was to receive a special award at her company's gala event! The gown was a much more complex project than anything she'd sewn before. The key was breaking down a complicated project into smaller increments. She learned a number of couture techniques along the way, but she says the experience of making this gown took her sewing in general to a much higher level.
